The Naam

Address: 4th and Macdonald
Type of food: Vegetarian
What I had: Sesame fries with miso gravy, El topo Dragon bowl and a chili cup (all to share between 2)
What I thought of the food: The sesame fries and the chili cup are all time favourites. The dragon bowl was good, although my favourite in this place still remains the Thai Noodles. The portions are huge, and that's why I didn't get to have dessert this time, but their pies are delightful.
The Place: quite cozy, sometimes they have live music. In peak hours it's always full.
The Service: I must say it has improved from the first times I went there. Now it is good.
What I paid: 11 CAD including tax and tip.
Was it worth it?: Sure.
Will I go back?: I try to go every time I get a chance.

Fortune Garden

Address: 1475 west Broadway Avenue (very close to junction w Granville St)
Type of Food: Authentic Chinese Food!
Description: They offer a quite impressive range of Food. The dishes are meant to be shared for a group of people or couples (the design of the tables itself suggest this idea). Ideal for Brunch with friends.
What I Had: I went with some friends (we were 8 in the table), so we had, among others (out of about 15 different dishes): Pork Buns (those guys look like not-yet-baked pillsbury bread with pork Inside), Won-ton Soup (which resembles Tortellini Soup), sticky rice with meat (portions are wraped in a tamal-like shell) and gai-lan (a green vegetable very close in flavour to asparagus).
What I Thought About the Food: Delicious! High quality Chinese food!
What I Thought about the place: Chinese style place. Spacious with tables designed for groups or couples; kind of dark place, though.
What I learned: The phrase I'm Hungry, said in Japanese, sounds like the spanish phrase "A la casita". Does this suggest that Japanese people prefer to have their meals in home?
Price: 90 CAD (8) It's certainly not cheap, but is pretty reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food you'll have.
Will I go back: Certainly.

The three c´s: Kitsilano Restaurant

In mexican spanish, when a place is nice and convenient, we say that it possesses the three b´s, from bueno, bonito y barato. I wanted to somehow translate that phrase in English to describe Kitsilano Restaurant: It possesses the three c´s: confortable, clean and...cheap!
Types of food: Don´t be scared if the first time you see the place does not seems to be very fancy. And remain positive when they give you the menus including options of chinese, japanese, canadian and all day breakfast. Wait and see:
The chinese food: Very good to excellent. The best shrimp fried rice I have tried (after surveying several chinese places). With 20 bucks or less you can get two different chinese platters, enough for two people.
Japanese food: Very good sushi, fresh and tasty. They have all you can eat lunch and dinner. Beware of the miso soup, a little bit different to other versions served in Vancouver.
Canadian food: Oops, you´ve got to try that one because I have not done it. But people seem happy munching hamburgers and sandwiches.
All day breakfast: For 7 bucks you get: 2 eggs (anyhow you like them), with sausage or bacon, hashbrown, cofee and toast. They have other stuff: fruit, milkshakes, you name it. Excellent breakfast for an excellent price.
Service: The dishes are delivered quicky, and the service in general is very good. Try it! Excellent for us, students.
Adress: 4th and Balsam
Would I go back?: I practically live there.

Service: Everyone is very nice, the owners are always there and they are really nice people
Price: Like 13 CAD (including tip)
Will I go back?: Oh yeah

Note: I learned from the owner the best way to get the ketchup out of the bottle: you put your fist on the table and then you hit it slightly with the ketchup bottle. Magic!

What I had: Eggplant casserole & falafel (shared).
What I thought of the food: It was all right, although it was served very hot and I burned myself a couple of times.
